How the record is made
Colophon
Montclair Birds is an acoustic observatory for one hillside in Montclair, Oakland. A single outdoor microphone feeds BirdNET-Go on a Raspberry Pi. Its candidate detections are mirrored into a separate record before anything appears here.
The public pages describe what the station heard. A detection is a sound event, not a count of individual birds, and a bird going unheard does not mean it was absent.
Species outside the expected record, confusing classifications, and corrected events stay private until they are reviewed. Classifier confidence is retained for that review but never shown as part of the public story.
The chorus chart places each species at a curated typical vocal frequency. That reference helps arrange the day; it is not a frequency measurement from the individual sound events.
This local build uses synthetic fixture detections. It makes no connection to the home station, BirdWeather, or production services.
